Product Review: Shea Moisture Co-Wash Conditioning Cleanser

I was oblivious to co-washing until I read various blogs and  The Science of Black Hair: A Comprehensive Guide to Textured Hair Care. At first I was perplexed, 'shampooing'/cleansing your hair with a conditioner?! Then it made a lot of sense when considering how shampooing can strip hair of moisture especially if you are person who perpetually battles with dry hair (like myself). It also doesn't help that my weekly stints in the pool tend to dry out my hair. I tried co-washing several months ago just using a regular conditioner (my favorite Alaffia Nourishing Conditioner Shea and Honey. I usually co-wash when I am going to the gym almost 6 times a week and I don't want to dry out one of my protective hairstyles (usually my twists). I also tend to co-wash when I do wash n' go hairstyles. Unfortunately my hair starts to get a little gunky and sticky from using another Shea Moisture product, the Curling souffle. So after three days I usually use the Shea Moisture Co-wash Conditioning Cleanser to remove some of that product buildup without drying out my hair.

I really like the the Shea Moisture Co-wash Conditioning Cleanser. It's only $11.99 and you can buy it (if its not sold out) at Target. The only draw back of course like with all natural products I like is that there is not enough of the product for more than 4 or 5 washes - and trust me I use the product sparingly! I really like how my hair feels after I use it; it does not feel that dirty (like there is product left in the hair) and it feel like you just washed your hair with a conditioner. I would not be surprised if the ingredients from Shea Moisture shampoo and conditioner lines have been combined into this one convenient bottle. I usually don't use a conditioner after I use this product because my hair feels that soft and manageable. I usually comb it out after with great ease and put it into braids for the night if I'm aiming for a wash n' go in the morning.
