Product Review: Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter

After much waiting for Qhemet Biologics products to be available for purchase again - I think they were renovating their product formulas and whatnot - I was able to purchase three of their products at a specialty organic food store called Erewhon (think healthier than Whole Foods). Although they did not have the whole spectrum of Qhemet Biologics products, they did have the three I was looking for (and just might be some of the more popular items): Moringa Tree Conditioning GheeBurdock Root Butter Creamand the Aethiopika Hydrate and Twist Butter. I have only had the pleasure of trying out the hydrate and twist butter so far and I was reasonably satisfied. I used the product to do what the title suggests, twist my hair. The texture of the product was a little harder than what I prefer but the fact that all the ingredients are all natural without any preservatives might have to do with the lack of liquidity in the texture of the product. However, the feel of the product did remind me of a slightly softer version of bees wax which made dread the possibility of PRODUCT BUILDUP! Luckily, several days after twisting my hair I went swimming, snorkeling, etc, so I think most of what was left of the product promptly washed away. I can't say if other natural hair twisting products do the same since I just recently started swimming regularly .

I also found it rather difficult to apply the product to most of the twisting strands. Even though my hair was damp, it was not like I could take some of the product and saturate the twist with it. I had to keep going for some more to add to the hair. I also found that it made my twists a little poofier than normal - again that might of had to do with the lack of liquidity. Even though I twisted my hair wet the twists came out very thick and full, which was not a bad look but was something I was not used to and I think it contributed to my twists becoming fuzzier faster than usual since they were not twisted tight.

I don't completely despise the product...it kept my hair nice and moisturized for the few days before I jumped into the pacific ocean. I do think that it is a little heavy for thinner and more fragile 4B/C hair strands (like my own). I think it will do nice for thicker hair strands - I did a good search on some twists and twist outs using the product and it seems some hair types different from my own had more amazing results with nicely defined twists and curls.
