The last few days have been great...a time for reflection, re-solidify old and new resolutions and establish a workable new hair care regimen! I decided from my recent press and curl experience that I would every other month put my hair in a protective style like crochet braids (great to wear during my synchronized swimming season) or Senegalese twists (which I plan to rock after the swimming season ends). As much as I hate it, I also decided to get my hair pressed every three months and I'll just try to not miss going to the gym or swimming as much during the straight hair hiatus. I hope by pressing it out 4 times a year it will keep my ends effectively trimmed and loosen the curl pattern enough to where I can comb through it without ripping it (not looking forward to the detangling session post afro I'm rocking right now).
In any case, I was planning on wearing my straight hair style through Christmas and the New Year but it didn't quite actually make it to Jan 1st 2014, mostly because my hair (which had not been tempered with a press in awhile) was not holding it well and was becoming frizzier by the day. I had this thought in my head that I had to have some big fantastic hair for new years, because it's New Years man! I played with the idea of getting my hair cornrowed and rocking my lace front wig...
But then I had no one to corn row my hair and I began to question why I could not just wear a wash n go and pick it out? I have to say lizadidall's afro she wore last week inspired me. So I started wearing the afro several days before new years eve (with too many looks to count) and I put it up in a semi-fro-hawk for New Year's Eve to my great delight. I was glad I had shaken the notion that wearing my natural hair just out and not styled was not fabulous enough.
You would never know that literally four hours before a bird actually pooped on me and got in my afro where I had to wash it out in a sink in a nice restaurant - some lady actually asked me, "is that how you keep it fresh all day?" Bless her heart.
Today I continued to rock the poofed out naps at work and intend to wear it through the weekend. I am just not looking forward to that detangling session (I am never that girl to comb it out and braid it up every night).
