Farm Fresh To You Box Review

MY EDIBLE DELIGHTS FOR THE WEEK

I haven't done a box of anything in awhile, especially not an edible box. So you can imagine my excitement when I got my first Farm Fresh to You Box - a mix of veggies and fruit enough for 2-3 people.

For those of us that can't make it to every farmers market, especially during the day you most likely are at work, I recommend boxes such as these. Sure there is Sprouts - a grocery store of locally sourced foods and more affordable than Wholefoods, but sometimes those types of grocery stores are either out of or not selling pomegranates, squash or even rainbow chard (always sold out!).

I actually did not have a say in what came in my box the first time around and it can be a blessing and also generate some question marks about what you can do with certain produce. The blessing is that if you are an adventurous eater like I am, you will be surprised at certain vegetables or fruit you never considered cooking before, ahem, butternut squash! It actually allowed me the opportunity to experiment roasting half the squash and the seeds to sauteing the other half with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup (you can guess which one I preferred).

The question marks was the lettuce oddly enough. I am not exactly a salad eater (I prefer roasted veggies - faster prep time) and I don't really make sandwiches where I throw a leaf of lettuce on it. I just ended up making a salad with tomatoes to compliment my egg frittata I had one sunday morning. I think to mitigate 'unnecessary' produce, definitely have more say in what goes into your box.

The box also includes some recipe ideas and local hipstery-farmers-market-y type events going on which I found cute - really starts to feel like you are apart of the community.

My box lasted me very well into the next week (I just reminded myself I have that orange to eat!) and I would definitely pursue the idea of getting a box every two weeks so as to continue my culinary creative talents with new foods and save myself trips to the grocery store!
