TamThyme (what used to be Everything Curly) is many things. It is a lifestyle blog exploring the natural and organic processes to maintain our hair, bodies, and spirits. I document my journey through this blog and informational site to serve as inspiration for others and hopefully to foster a community of exchange in some of these experimental endeavors. I celebrate the diversity of hair types, textures, and styles. I also have a deep love for plants and herbs and how they can naturally enliven our daily life routines, including body and hair care.

NATURAL tam

Being natural for 25+ years, never chemically altering my hair, I sometimes wondered if I should have been born in the 70s when natural hair was more glorified and looked at in a positive light. Although things change with regards to perception from decade to decade, I have noticed there has been a return and focus on embracing hair in all forms.

Before September 2011, there was no shortage of harsh chemicals, preservatives, parabens, etc that I would coat my hair and skin with. The food I ate was also no exception before I decided to try to eat organically grown produce and hormone-free meats. After reading  The Green Beauty Guide: Your Essential Resource to Organic and Natural Skin Care, Hair Care, Makeup, and Fragrances by Julie Gabriel, I was inspired to clean up my daily beauty routine and diet. I also started gardening more and took up an herbal apprenticeship course to better serve my internal and external natural routine. Don't get me wrong though - I still enjoy the occasional In-n-Out burger and it is still hard to part with my favorite shade of MAC lipstick.

busy tam

An entrepreneur at heart, I am involved in many things. I am currently working in real estate and rehab financing. My main side hustle is cultivating and producing an organic herbal product line of topicals, soaps, toners, and tinctures. When I have time to breathe, I am usually just holding my breathe again doing Masters Synchronized Swimming. Any time after that is spent decompressing in my garden or over my sewing machine.

If you can, try to eliminate these ingredients in your everyday hair and body care routine: Paraffins, PEGs, Phthalates, Sulfates, Silicas, Dimethicone, Laureth, Ceteareth, Sulfates, Benzyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Mineral Oil and Petrolatum.

For more information about these chemicals and others in your cosmetics you can check out the Environmental Working Group's website, SkinDeep
